The Little Book of Tom. Blue Collar - Touko Laaksonen - książka
Producent:
As a young boy, Tom was captivated by a strong farmhand laboring in the fields nearby his family's home. Finland, known for its hardy men engaged in demanding outdoor work such as fishing in icy waters, logging in expansive forests, and harvesting grains, left a strong impression on him. Tom, a more sensitive soul, looked up to these rugged individuals, particularly intrigued by their practical and protective attire. He reminisced, "In my youth, leather was the choice of those working outdoors, keeping them warm. The men donning leather were those I deeply admired." When Tom began to explore drawing, he was inspired by these early figures, enhancing their outfits with tight jeans, worn T-shirts, and unique thigh-high Lappish boots with beak toes. This young logger, dressed in such attire, featured on the cover of Physique Pictorial in spring 1957, marking Tom's introduction to a broader audience.Over the subsequent decades, Tom expanded his artistic repertoire to include archetypes like truckers, repairmen, construction workers, and cowboys, highlighting them as icons of working-class heroism. While these were merely sexual fantasies for him, Tom's representations played a significant role in helping working-class gay men embrace their identities. "The Little Book of Tom: Blue Collar" compiles Tom's fascination with these working men into an accessible collection. It features a robust selection of multi-panel comics and individual drawings and paintings, complemented by archival materials such as historic film stills, posters, personal photos, sketches, and Tom's own reference images.
